Each year TSOI awards two $500 scholarships.  The recipients  must be related to a TSOI member and enrolled in an accredited college or university.  There is an application process and a selection committee.  The scholarships are awarded based on the criteria set each year by the scholarship committee.  They are funded by donations from our members and friends.

TRIANGLE ORDER OF THE SONS OF ITALY – LODGE 2817 - 4th Annual SCHOLARSHIP 2009/2010

Two (2) students will each be awarded a $500.00 scholarship to be disbursed for the 2009/2010 School Year.

Candidates Must: Complete an application and submit a typewritten original essay of 500-750 words about a personal experience which demonstrated or generated pride in your Italian heritage.

Screening: Applications will be screened by the TSOI #2817 Scholarship Committee and will be based on educational quality, commitment to community and/or philanthropic endeavors, appreciation of Italian heritage and the essay.

Award Recipient Announcement: Scholarship winner(s) will be announced and recognized at the TSOI #2817 Family Picnic on June 13, 2010 at Wildwood Greens Picnic Shelter in North Raleigh.

Eligibility: One or more relative is an active member of TSOI #2817 during the 2010 year. Applicant will be actively enrolled in post-secondary education in the fall of 2010.  All scholarships decisions will be at the sole discretion of Scholarship Committee.

2010 Scholarship Winners:
Lodge 2817 chose two students as winners of our annual scholarships for the year 2010-2011. Each will received $500 at the annual Triangle Sons of Italy picnic held June 2010. And the winners are:

Cameron Green, Son of Jennifer Green and Mark LaMantia. 

Cameron will be a Sophomore at UNC - Greensboro in the Fall.  Cameron is a Political Science Major.  He is an active participant in Mary Foust Residential College and also participated in Lloyd International Honors College.  Cameron is an Eagle Scout and also was a North Carolina Senate Page.  Cameron lives in Raleigh, NC with his parents when not attending school.  Cameron is a very giving young man and has volunteered his services to many different organizations.


Alexandra Romano, Grandaughter of Tony and Josephine Romano

Alex will be a Sophomore at Elon College in the Fall.  She is currently enrolled in the Doane Stuart School at Elon College.  She is a very active young lady and was a member of the Capital Ballet Company while in High School.  Alex was a Student Ambassador in High School and also was an Assistant to Activities Director at an Alzheimer's Nursing Home.  Alex lives in Knoxville, Tenn. when not attending school.  Despite many hardships that Alex has encountered this past year with her health, she managed to do very well academically. 

We congratulate Cameron and Alexandra on their achievements. It makes us proud to share our Italian American heritage with such fine young citizens.
