Next Event TBD

EVENT COORDINATOR: Don Cimorelli

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

TSDOI Members recommend restaurants for consideration, both Italian and Non-Italian that have luncheon hours. Members can register for lunch on the Signup Genius link below if they wish to attend. Each member pays for their own meal at the restaurant (Restaurant Automatically Adds Gratuity).

Attendees complete the restaurant evaluation form at the end of lunch and within a few days, the restaurant manager will receive a consolidated summary of the TSDOI dining experience.

No reviews are posted to social media by the individual attendees. The Lodge wishes to provide helpful feedback, both positive & constructive, to the restaurant manager to support their efforts to STAND OUT AMONG THE RESTAURANT COMPETITION and run a successful dining enterprise.

TSDOI Tia DeMaria Memorial Raleigh Regional Bocce Tournament

We are thrilled to once again announce the forever popular TSDOI Bocce Tournament.  This year’s tournament features a new name: The TSDOI Tia DeMaria Memorial Raleigh Regional Bocce Tournament, in honor of a beloved Triangle Sons and Daughters of Italy member who passed away from pancreatic cancer last year. Proceeds from this year’s tournament will benefit the National Pancreatic Cancer Foundation in Tia’s honor.

Tia’s family has a tradition of actively participating in this TSDOI event, and I am especially pleased to announce that TSDOI Member Kristen Zimmer (Tia’s Daughter) is the Chairperson for the 2024 tournament.

This will be the Twelfth Annual Statewide Tournament with regional semifinals in Raleigh and Valdese. The First, Second, and Third place finalists from the Regional tournaments will be invited to compete in the Final State Championship event to be held in the fall.

The 2024 tournament proudly hosted by the Triangle Sons and Daughters of Italy Lodge 2817 will be held at the Clayton Community Park located at 1075 Amelia Church Road, Clayton, NC on Saturday, May 4, 2024 (Rain date – Sunday, May 5, 2024).

Teams will consist of four players (gender neutral), with each player throwing two balls per frame. Each game will be played to 11 points, and a best-two-out-of-three game format will determine the match winners.

The format for the State Finals may vary from the regional tournament rules. Cash prizes for first, second, and third place at the State Finals will be awarded.

NEW FOR 2024

Entry Fee: This year, we are offering teams the option to include payment for lunch in their registration fees, which will allow them to pre-order a sandwich of their choice. Lunch will also include chips, fruit, cookie, and a drink. Lunch MUST BE PRE-ORDERED by the Teams to receive a lunch.  We will also be announcing an advance pre-order lunch option for Non-Player Spectators.  The 2024 registration fees are as follows:

Bocce Team Registration with No Lunch:  $60 per Team

Bocce Team Registration with Lunch Included:  $100 per Team

Bocce Team Registration with a Sponsor and Lunch:  $14

Also new for 2024 is the option to email the Team Registration Form to Kristen Zimmer and pay the team registration fee electronically through payment links being provided.  For the most efficient processing, we highly recommend emailing the registration forms and paying electronically rather than submitting hardcopy forms and checks through USPS.  However, we will still accept forms and checks mailed through USPS.

We encourage Members and Friends of TSDOI to form their own teams as they have traditionally done and submit the forms and payments accordingly.  However, if you wish to play and do not have a team, you can submit your name to Kristen Zimmer (kris.demari@gmail.com) and she will try to match up teams of four.  There is no guarantee that you will be able a participate if you are not part of a team registration submitted, but we will attempt to match you up.

Let’s go play some Bocce!  Your team registration forms and payments are due by Monday, April 29th at 5:00 pm.  You can direct any questions to Kristen Zimmer (Kris.demaria@gmail.com) or me (Donald.cimorelli@gmail.com).

Here are more details:

Owner of Melina’s Fresh Pasta, Carmella, and her family are from Calabria – right on the toe of the Italian boot. In this class Carmella will teach you the hand rolled pasta making traditions of Southern Italy.

Made with flour and water and then shaped by hand, these chewy pastas pair well with any sauce. During the class we will make the dough and shapes from 3 Southern Italian regions. We will demonstrate how to make quick traditional regional sauces for each pasta shape.

Calabria – Fusilli with Aglio, Olio e Peperoncino

Campania – Cavatelli with pomodoro (tomato) sauce

Abruzzo – Anellini alla Pecorara (vegetable sauce)

We eat what we make! Note: This is typically enough pasta for a light to medium sized meal.

All participants receive a Melina’s Fresh Pasta Recipe Book via email after the class with the recipes from the class.

Maximum 24 participants
